Dr. Matthias Bruhn

Postdoctoral Researcher

About

Dr. Matthias Bruhn is postdoctoral researcher in the Institute for Experimental Infection Research at TWINCORE. His research focus is to study the complex interplay between pathogen evolution on one side and the development of pathogen-neutralizing antibodies by the immune system on the other side. Dr. Bruhn pioneered B cell research at TWINCORE by combining novel single-cell RNA sequencing technologies with recombinant expression of monoclonal antibodies in the MEMUMAB project. His activities resulted in several first-author publications, one filed patent application and a Scientific Advice at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institute.

Dr. Bruhn initially studied biology with a focus on synthetic microbiology and he published multiple peer-reviewed articles already as a Master student. In 2018, he joined the PhD program Infection Biology (ZIB) at the Hannover Medical School to pursue his PhD and successfully participated in the TRAIN Academy. For his scientific contributions, he was awarded the PhD price of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in 2024.
