LISA – Lower Saxony International Summer Academy
Knowledge, Practice, and Networking in Infection and Immunology
The LISA Summer Academy is a three-week training programme for students of life sciences. During LISA, students from all over the world learn about the fundamentals of infectious diseases and immunology as well as current topics in research. As part of the course programme, scientists from TWINCORE, MHH, HZI and Fraunhofer ITEM teach them the latest knowledge in infectious diseases and immunology as well as experimental techniques.
During the first week, lectures on current topics in infectious diseases and immunology are held by scientists from MHH, HZI, Fraunhofer ITEM and TWINCORE, as well as renowned international guest speakers. In the second and third weeks, students apply their newly acquired knowledge in laboratory rotations – and have the opportunity to establish contacts with various research groups during this time.
LISA will take place for the fifteenth time in 2026. In recent years, around 460 international students have participated in the summer academy – some of whom are now conducting research as part of PhD programmes at one of the partner institutions. In 2020, LISA had to be cancelled due to the pandemic, and in 2021, the summer academy took place as a purely digital event. Since 2022, LISA has been held on site again as usual.
