Just in time for the beginning of the year, TWINCORE has added a new junior research group. The immunologist Dr. rer. nat. Yannic Bartsch complements the scientific portfolio of the Institute for Experimental Infection Research with his group "Antiviral Antibody Omics". Bartsch studied and graduated his PhD at the University of Lübeck and was most recently a postdoctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA.
At TWINCORE, he will investigate the role antibody of responses in viral infections. One of his initial research foci will be the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). "We want to learn from natural infections how protective antibodies and antibody profiles look like," says Bartsch.
Prof. Ulrich Kalinke, Executive Director of TWINCORE and Director of the Institute for Experimental Infection Research is pleased about the new addition: "In his research group, Yannic Bartsch will investigate antiviral antibody responses from a different angle. He will establish many new technologies at TWINCORE. With his work, he will further strengthen TWINCORE's research strategy."
Bartsch is enthusiastic about his next career step: "TWINCORE has an excellent clinical connection to the large university hospital MHH and at the same time the HZI in Braunschweig is nearby. This is the right environment to start a new research group."
