
Dr. Benjamin E. Nilsson-Payant
About
Benjamin Nilsson-Payant is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Experimental Virology in Professor Thomas Pietschmann’s laboratory. He studied Biology at Imperial College London (2010-2013) and gained his DPhil in Infection, Immunology and Translational Medicine from the University of Oxford in 2017. From 2018-2021 he pursued his postdoctoral research in Professor Benjamin tenOever’s laboratory at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, before moving to TWINCORE in 2022. He is a principal investigator in the Cluster of Excellence RESIST and the Centre for Infection Biology (ZIB). Since 2024 he is also a Swedish Research Council (VR)-funded Assistant Professor at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden and the recipient of the 2024 Jonas Söderquist Scholarship. Benjamin and his team study emerging negative-sense RNA viruses with a particular focus on hantaviruses and the role of non-standard viral genomes in viral life cycles.
